December 30, 2016: Mantras for 2017…

I’ve spent a decent amount of time over the last couple of weeks both reflecting over the past year as well as looking forward into the next, and all in all, I’ve whittled my outlook down to three simple mantras…

  1. Life is good.
  2. Work harder.
  3. Have fun.

Life is good.
I don’t mean to brag or boast, but it’s true. My wife and I had twins, they’ve now both been home together for over a month and we’re starting to establish a decent routine, and things are coming along ok with regards to balancing our budget while allowing my wife to reduce her hours at work to stay home with the boys. Add onto that a pretty great Christmas holiday overall loaded with lots of family time and there’s not a whole lot to complain about there. I think it’s important to remember things like these when times get tough…

Work harder.
If I’m being brutally honest, the only thing really holding us back right now is the almighty dollar, whether we’re talking about longer vacations or building our dream house, and the opportunities are out there that if I push myself a little harder, it would definitely help to move us in the right direction. I just need to do it, and so that’s the goal with this one – simply to keep me motivated towards those bigger goals like a bedroom for every child and a three-day weekend at Disney World once a month! 😉

Have fun.
It might seem a bit silly, but particularly when I’m hyper-focused on work, fun and spending time with the family is something that I unfortunately have a habit of overlooking. So especially coming off of a holiday season that was absolutely jam-packed with fun times had by all, it’s something that I don’t want to see lost next year as I get back to the daily grind and start pushing myself a bit harder as I previously mentioned.

Just three simple mantas – seven words in total – but I think at the most basic of levels they have a real potential to serve as a good foundation for a great year ahead of us.

What would you like to see yourself focus on in 2017???
