Thankfully voting for me was pretty easy today … once I was able to finish my research to actually figure out how to vote for all of these weird, local positions, anyways… 😛
It admittedly made me feel a little old, but I actually filled out my sample ballot in its entirety over the last couple of weeks so that I could take it with me when I went to vote, and it honestly made voting itself so much easier! I’ve complained before about not really knowing anything about my County Commissioners or District Court Judges, and even the state constitutional amendments are often times worded confusingly – this year’s solar amendment written by the utility companies to protect their profits as consumers go solar is a great example of that.
So I did what I could to look them up a few at a time when I had free time, with my local county officials really being the worst because there was hardly any information to be found on them in the first place. I finally ended up googling the position and my county, and it pulled up recommendation articles from a couple of the big local newspapers which gave me enough to make a decision one way or the other…
Voting itself definitely makes me feel for people in other areas because my local precinct is super accessible. It’s literally about a 15-minute walk through our subdivision to our club house and I think there were maybe two people ahead of me in line when I showed up. The whole thing took me maybe 30-40 minutes and most of that was walking time … plus, it was a really nice day out! … so all in all I can’t really complain too much. 😉
It’s hard to even imagine the process being as difficult as some people cite … I’ve already seen several friends post about 2 hour waits on Facebook, not to mention news reports of lines for miles in larger cities. There are so many ways that we could make voting easier, but for now I’m just waiting on the edge of my seat like everybody else to see who wins…
